About 30km from the town of Corfu, on the south-western side of the island, close to the village of Agios Mathaios, lies the Korisia lagoon. A strip of land a few metres wide separates the lagoon from the sea and forms the Halikounas beach.

This is a completely natural and unspoiled location; the few houses stand on their own land, some distance from each other. All around one sees olive groves, endless beaches and open sea - a scene of absolute tranquility.

Above it all looms the mediaeval Gardiki castle, reminding the visitor of the period when the island had to defend itself from pirate raids.
The closest beaches are Halikounas, Skidi, Prasoudi and Alonaki – with crystal-clear water and traditional fish tavernas right at the waters edge.
